Ways On How To Cope With Difficult Times

Here are seven suggestions that caregivers who have lost a loved one can follow to cope with their grief.

1. Set aside time to grieve fully. Whether it’s in the early morning hours or later in the day, make time to sit with your grief.

2. Acknowledge your feelings that arise. Don’t judge them.

3. Name your feelings. Be specific. Is it:

  • Relief
  • Guilt
  • Anger
  • Or something else?

4. Engage your body to release these feelings.

  • Take deep breaths in and out. Accept your feelings.
  • Release your feeling with a deep exhale as you push your clenched hands out.
  • Hit the bed with a baseball bat to release anger.

5. Allow time to care for yourself.

  • Eat well and get enough sleep.
  • Keep regular health check-ups.
  • Practice stress-releasing exercises or activities.

6. Don’t let others tell you how to grieve. Your grief is unique to you.

7. Have your grief witnessed by like-minded people. Join grief support groups or get individualized support.
